I aim to produce one long-form article every 4-6 weeks, based around my thinking, teaching, speaking and writing. Each piece will be accompanied by an audio/podcast version read by me. My post will be few in a year, but substantive, addressing the key cultural issues facing the church in the west today.

Each of these articles is focused and draws on materials and ideas that are making their way into a book I am writing.

My articles are not a ‘how to’ in three, four or seven steps. There are plenty of those around, and some wonderful ones that I subscribe to. Instead, my articles are made at the intersection of practice and leadership as a church planter and pastor, along with accessible theological and biblical reflections.

My long-form articles might take on similar topics to church leadership blogs but instead will dig a little deeper into diagnosing what is going on. And they will explore at the same time the implications for leadership and practice in response.

I want to help church leaders and members better understand the enormous changes and forces that are coming against them, but in a way that gives them hope and confidence and a means of response.

I’ll be taking on some topics, that usually result in knee-jerk reactions of throwing out the baby with the bathwater, or move along there is no problem here. For example, why not taking your kids to church virtually guarantees them never being Christians, and why first world problems are killing us with anxiety depression divorce and ill health. Why Christians have been unfaithful and traded their imaginations for following Jesus for consumer dreams. Why radical new ways of doing and being church are often more of the same problem, and why you are not free to be whoever you want to be.

The first upcoming piece in early January 2019, will be about church attendance, titled, ‘Why you don’t need to go to church to be a Christian and other fairy tales…”
